My third day in Singapore was dedicated to pure excitement and adventure: a full day at Universal Studios on Sentosa Island. After hearing so much about it and getting tips from fellow travelers at my hostel, I was determined to experience its magic.
Planning the Adventure: Tickets & Transit to Sentosa
My first step was securing tickets for Universal Studios. I learned that buying tickets online through platforms like Pelago.com (which often has promotions connected to Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer program) can offer better prices. With 900 KrisFlyer points already accumulated from previous flights, the ticket would have been free if I had 9000 points. Nevertheless, purchasing online provided instant WhatsApp delivery of my ticket, making it convenient.
Getting to Sentosa Island required a multi-step journey. From my Chinatown hostel, it was a six-minute walk to the Chinatown metro station. Two stops later, I arrived at HarbourFront (VivoCity station), where I could purchase tickets for the Sentosa Express train for four dollars. The train itself was a quick five to six-minute ride, taking me directly to the heart of Sentosa.
Universal Studios: A World of Movie Magic
Upon entering Universal Studios, the atmosphere immediately transported me into a movie set. The spinning Universal Studios globe, a popular photo op, marked the beginning of an immersive experience. My online ticket, scanned via its barcode, granted seamless entry. The park felt like a city within a city, each zone a meticulously crafted stage.
Rides & Experiences: From Transformers to Jurassic Park
My first target was the **Transformers: The Ride 3D**, known for its popularity and long wait times (around 100 minutes, though I saw a “Lights, Camera, Action!” show with a shorter wait, which was a Spielberg-themed movie set experience). Transformers proved to be the absolute best ride of the day – a thrilling 4D experience with incredible visuals and effects, truly engaging all senses. Meeting the interactive Bumblebee and Optimus Prime characters afterwards, complete with humorous banter and photo opportunities, added to the magic.

Next, I ventured into the **Ancient Egypt** zone, marveling at the detailed Anubis figures and pyramid-like decor that truly made me feel like I was in an archaeological site. Then it was on to **Jurassic Park**, where the entrance faithfully recreated the movie’s iconic gate. For the water ride here, I had wisely brought a six-dollar raincoat. While I took precautions, the ride was surprisingly fun and didn’t get me too wet.

The **Mummy ride** required a locker for belongings (a simple system using date of birth and a color code), offering a surprisingly scary but well-themed experience with mummies and charming decorations.

My exploration continued to **Far Far Away**, the Shrek-themed land. The **Shrek 4D Adventure** was a delightful experience, with its 3D visuals enhanced by physical effects like water splashes and seat movements, making it a true 4D journey. I also passed by the Puss in Boots’ factory (more for kids) and the Enchanted Airways junior roller coaster, which, despite being for juniors, offered a surprising jolt!
Shopping & Farewell to Singapore
The souvenir shops at Universal Studios were tempting, and I almost splurged on several items, quickly realizing the cost. After soaking in the atmosphere and enjoying various live programs, I exited the park and made my way back to VivoCity. A quick meal at Toast Box with Kaya Toast and a Milo shake provided a satisfying end to the park visit.
My final evening in Singapore was spent in Chinatown. I visited a nearby Chinese restaurant for dinner, where I experienced ordering from a Chinese-only menu using Google Translate – a fun and delicious challenge! I tried various grilled skewers (beef, mutton, chicken, pork) with flavorful fried rice and orange juice. The food was excellent, and the staff appreciated my attempts to communicate in their language.
After a full day of walking (over 10,000 steps!), I returned to my hostel, resting up for my morning flight to the Philippines. Singapore had truly delivered an advanced, clean, and incredibly fun travel experience.
The Best 4D Rides at Universal Studios Singapore
For thrill-seekers who want to engage all their senses, Universal Studios Singapore (USS) offers world-class 4D experiences that combine 3D visuals with physical effects like seat movements, wind, and water.
- Transformers: The Ride 3D: Widely considered the absolute best ride in the park, this high-octane 4D experience pits you against the Decepticons. While it often commands a 100-minute wait time, it delivers intense excitement through hyper-realistic visuals and movement without the extreme jolts of a traditional roller coaster.
- Shrek 4D Adventure: Located in the fairytale land of Far Far Away, this attraction is a family favourite. The 3D visuals are enhanced by physical effects such as water splashes and seat movements, making you feel part of the Shrek universe.
- Lights, Camera, Action!: Hosted by Steven Spielberg, this movie set experience offers a shorter wait time and provides a fascinating look at how special effects are used to create cinematic storms and disasters.
Essential Planning: Tickets and the “KrisFlyer Hack”
Purchasing tickets online in advance is highly recommended to avoid long queues and secure better prices.
- The Pelago Hack: Booking through platforms like Pelago.com can offer significant advantages. Since it is connected to Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer program, you can use accumulated flight points to reduce the ticket cost. A standard ticket costs approximately 77 SGD (around 7,000–8,000 BDT).
- Universal Studios App: Download the official app to track real-time ride waiting times, check show schedules, and navigate the park map efficiently.
Navigating Sentosa Island
Getting to the park from central areas like Chinatown is a seamless multi-step journey.
- Take the MRT (Metro) to the HarbourFront (VivoCity) station.
- Purchase a ticket for the Sentosa Express train for 4 SGD.
- The train ride takes only 5–6 minutes to reach the heart of Sentosa Island.
Pro-Tips for Your Visit
- Go to Transformers First: Because of its immense popularity, head straight to the Transformers ride as soon as the park opens to avoid the peak 100-minute queues.
- Locker Systems: Rides like Revenge of the Mummy require you to store belongings in a locker. The system uses your date of birth and a colour code to secure your items.
- Stay Dry (or Not): For the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, it is wise to bring a lightweight raincoat or purchase one for 6 SGD to avoid getting soaked.
- Hydration: Water inside the park is expensive (approximately 4 SGD). Bring your own water bottle and utilise the refill stations throughout the park.
Universal Studios Singapore is a “city within a city,” where every zone is a meticulously crafted stage. Whether you are meeting Optimus Prime or exploring Ancient Egypt, it remains a pinnacle of Southeast Asian travel adventures.

Traveler’s Tip:
Purchase Universal Studios tickets online in advance, preferably through official partners, for potential discounts and convenience.
Download the Universal Studios app for real-time ride waiting times, show schedules, and park maps – it’s invaluable for planning your day efficiently.
